Calsberg Probably Not The Best Beer In The World
I was on the Road earlier on this afternoon doing whatever it is I do for a real job, when I suddenly had the urge to have ice cold pint of beer. It was lunch time and I felt like I had earned a swift pint to help cool me down before I jumped on the Sauna back to Kilburn, I meant to say the Tube.
I found a decent enough looking boozer who’s name escapes me at the moment. Outside the bar they had a sign proclaiming, ‘Calsberg Probably The Best Beer In The World’, with a wonderful looking picture of an ice cold pint of beer. They had me hooked how could I resist, P. T. Barnum would have been proud of me, ‘there’s is a sucker born every minute!’
A Polish girl who looked like a model was serving behind the bar, there are so many Polish girls pulling pints in bars in London nowadays. It has been quite a few years since I last had a pint of Calsberg and if my memory serves me correctly it wasn’t too bad a brew. Model Polish girl had miraculously managed to pull a decent looking pint. It almost looked too good to drink and when I touched the glass it was ice cold. It looked quite simply de-fucking- licious.
Was it going to probably be the best beer in the world. I certainly hoped so. I braced myself I took a large sip, it tasted good, it tasted dam good. But in my mind Calsberg is most probably not the best beer in the world. Just to make sure I had a second pint, it was after all in the aid of research. And the result was the same – Calsberg is a good tasting beer, but they are taking liberties when they say it is probably the best beer in the world. It is however an amazing and memorable slogan.
I suppose at the end of the day the slogan for Calsberg, ‘Probably the Best Beer In The World’ was after all invented by the advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi, which says it all really. Just because you say it, doesn’t mean its true. Just look at Katie Price the celebrity, she makes up so much shit that I doubt she even knows what the truth is any more!
Calsberg are probably not the best beer in the world, but they probably have some of the best beer commercials in the world. And I most definitely wouldn’t refuse a pint of Calsberg or two, it is a very drinkable brew.
