Buckingham Palace | London Titbits

Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. A building that I have looked at in wonder on numerous occasions. How the privileged other half live eh!

I have never been on the tour of Buckingham Palace…and I never will. I personally feel that it should be a free tour. I have a major issue with paying people such as the Royal family my good hard earned money to see round a few spare rooms of their ostentatious home that they live in due to birth right. Don’t get me wrong I feel the Queen and Prince Philip do a great job as tourist attractions and that Prince William and Prince Harry do a great job as playboys..!

Buckingham Palace has a garden that extends to over 40 acres, yes indeed how the other half live. There is of course a lake, you wouldn’t expect anything less…there are also 30 different species of bird and more than 350 different wild flowers. And just what every home needs and that is a helicopter landing pad.

Buckingham Palace is not short on inside space either, which will come as no surprise to anybody that has stood outside the building and has seen how massive it is. There are only 775 rooms inside the Palace! Of which, 19 are State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and a mere 78 bathrooms. I wonder how much their heating and lighting bills are?

Buckingham Palace has its very own chapel, post office, swimming pool, staff cafeteria, doctor’s surgery and cinema. This Palace has more amenities than some villages that I have visited back home in Scotland.

Just in case you ever happen to be in the vicinity of Buckingham Palace and you plan on paying the Queen a surprise visit. You can tell whether she is at home by the flag that is flying above the Palace. When the Queen is in residence the Royal Standard flies and when she is out at Sainsbury’s doing a wee bit of shopping the Union Flag flies instead.

And lastly if you plan on sending the Queen a Christmas card this year don’t forget to put the correct post code on the envelope, SW1A 1AA.

  3. There is much more to the Buckingham Palace tour then a “few spare rooms” BP is steeped in history and is well worth a visit. I really enjoyed it! If you don’t see the appeal then your loss!
    :)
Also ticket sales go towards maintaining such an historical important building as the goverments now & previously are desipicable when it comes to restoring & preserving beautiful buildings.

    Long live the Queen!
