Britain Has Always Had Talent
I must admit I haven’t been watching too much of Britain’s Got Talent, in fact I hadn’t watched any of it! But last night, out of extreme boredom I thought I better see what all the fuss was about. So I logged onto YouTube and watched some highlights of the show. Man was it gruesome stuff, they sure have got the name of that television show all wrong.
Lets put it this way, I fail to see what all the hype is about, sure there are one or two decent acts, but most of them are not worthy of being on a stage in a wee village hall, let alone on television.
The Scottish lady Susan Boyle sang “Memory” from Cats, a fantastic show, which I watched when it toured Aberdeen a few years ago. She performed it fairly well considering all the pressure that was on her.

Living in London I’m quite aware that there is an amazing amount of talent in this country. Virtually every day I will come across countless very talented musicians, singers and street performers on the streets and in the tube stations of the Big Smoke. I’m quite sure that some of them that I have passed bye, will one day have a lucky break and go onto become famous, others will for what ever reason, will not be so lucky or don’t have the same desire to make it big.
I don’t know if nowadays the record executives or television scouts can be bothered to come out of their luxury offices and walk around London to listen and watch the talent that is performing on the streets. If they did they will come across people that can actually write and sing their own songs or write and perform their own original material. Aint that something amazing Mr Simon Cowell.
The star of the Show so far is the Scottish lassie Susan Boyle, and there is no getting away from the fact that she has got talent, has some character about her and can sing reasonable well. But give me a break she isn’t as good, as all the hype that she is getting. I think the big problem in the UK, is that the people of this country don’t get out enough. They are too busy spending their boring life’s glued to there television sets. I can understand the Yanks getting caught up in all the hysteria over my fellow Scot Susan Boyle, because they quite frankly haven’t got much of a clue about music.
All I will say people, is that you need to leave your television sets for an evening and go and watch some of the local amateur musical shows or theatre productions that are on in your areas. There you will see some amazing talent that will blow your brains out. Once you have done this, you will know what I’m talking about, when I say Susan Boyle is good, but she aint that good. Or even take a walk along for example the South Bank of the Thames or visit Piccadilly Square at the weekends and stop, watch and listen to the buskers, you might just be surprised with what you find.

Susan Boyle took her opportunity to change her life beautifully and I wouldn’t be surprised, if that in this day and age that we live in, that it was all carefully rehearsed and orchestrated from the moment she stepped onto the stage for her performance of “I Dreamed A Dream”. Call me a cynic if you wish but I live in the real world! This lady has came from total obscurity to becoming famous all over the world in a matter of a few days, would you believe her original performance on the 11 of April 2009 has had over 23 million views on YouTube. That is truly amazing!
I’m sure the sharks like Simon Cowell will be trying there hardest to make some quick and easy money out of Susan Boyle and when the money stops flowing in, they will forget about her even quicker, than when she was first discovered. I just hope that she makes a whole big pot of money out of her new found fame and that the vermin of the entrainment world don’t use and abuse her for there own means.
It isn’t like Susan Boyle just walked off the street and had never performed before, I can imagine that she had done countless amateur productions over the years. Lets be honest if she walked on to that stage looking a bit more attractive and was better dressed than she was, she wouldn’t have received 10% of the fuss, hype or fame that she did and that is a fact.
Whether Susan Boyle is the best performer on Britain’s Got Talent I’m not too sure, but she is undoubtedly going to win it. The good old hype machine will make sure of that! Because she is a fellow Scot, I will of course be rooting for her and hope that she wins. I must admit that she seems like a genuine and nice lady, which is something rare in the music, celebrity or fame world.
I would now like to put Susan Boyles performance into persepective, just listen to the legendary Elaine Paige performing Memory and you will see a real star with an amazing voice in action. Now can you see and hear the difference between a reasonable good amateur that got lucky and a real star, I’m sure you can. For those crazy people that I hear saying Susan Boyle is the next Eliane Paige, give me a fu**ing break. I can only guess you have heard the ladies name and know of her, but in reality you have obviously never listend to her sing or watch her perfrom before.

Susan Boyle may not be the most talented woman but she has talent and luck is on her side. You see, in talent contests, talent is not enough to win, you have to wow the judges and the audience as well. She may not have won over the looks department but she made the audience stop for a while and listen to her.
I agree with you that there are plenty of gifted and talented people everywhere, it’s how they make use of that talent and improve them over the years.
Very true, but I always find the good old hype machine in the UK so entertaining. It is the land of make believe, where all the sad people that live there life’s in front of their television sets are fed a storyline and exploited in the name of entrainment and making the sharks richer.
I would be very surprised if Ant and Dec, or Simon Cowell etc never knew that Susan Boyle could sing as well as she did before she stepped on to the stage. It all looked too well rehearsed for me from the moment the camera focussed in on certain members of the audience before she started to sing and the manufactured looks of surprise on the judges faces, give me a break. As we are all aware Susan Boyle like the rest of the participants in “Britain’s Got Talent” had to audition to make sure she was good enough to appear on the TV, I rest my case!
As I said in my article Susan Boyle does have some talent and that I hope she does makes some real money out of her fame and that it doesn’t all go to the people that will be trying their best to fleece the good lady.
Your so right in what you say, Susan has got talent but it is like comparing cavier to beaked beans when you compare her to Elaine Paige!
Impressive and amazing performance by Elaine Paige. I love “Memory” so much. I always ask my violinist friend to play it for me. I guess it’s not proper comparing Susan Boyle and Elaine Paige as they have different styles and levels as artists. Elaine is a distinguished, legendary and well-respected singer already. Susan Boyle is great and I love her too. She has been singing for years but her real fame has just started. She has a long way to go and she still has a lot to prove. She got lucky, yes and many people are happy for that.
Susan Boyle is an incredibly talented lady who’s been subjected to considerable pressure in the media. IMHO she deserves all of the success that she is having.
