Barclays Live At Leicester Square
I eventually made it to Leicester Square for the London leg of the Barclays Live dance competition event on Saturday afternoon, featuring some of London’s hottest up and coming dance groups. 10 dance groups were competing for the chance to win a £1000 fist prize and 2 VIP tickets for Brendan Cole’s upcoming dance tour – offering only 2 tickets sucks if you ask me!
Due to circumstances created by my good-self I arrived at Leicester Square a wee bit behind schedule. For a disturbing few minutes I thought I had arrived too late and had missed the dance competition. When I got there the excellent Kins Of Leon the tribute group were performing – these guys are rather quite good if you ask me. Fortunately the early morning rain that blighted my start to the day, had now turned to sunshine, which was particularly pleasing to see.
After a wee while of listening to the music, it soon become apparent that the top 5 dance groups would soon be back on stage to perform again. I hadn’t missed the whole event, which was good news, because I had been looking forward to seeing those talented youngsters in action.
After the Kins of Leon performed, a professional dance group called Funkstylerz did a set, which was good, but I was more impressed with some of the amateurs that I would watch perform later if the truth be told. There was also a performance by a bunch of nutters dressed in light blue Coldstream Guards uniforms, these guys were fun to watch.
The 5 dance acts that made it through to the public voting stage were, Definitives, Fusion, Remix, Retaliation and DEM LOT and if I’m honest I wasn’t sure who was the best, they were all good. In fact I had to vote for them all. I didn’t think it would be fair to vote for one and not the others. An unbelievable amount of talent was on that stage in Leicester Square.
