Amazing View From A Secret London Bridge
A few months ago, I had a meeting at ExCel London, which is a exhibition and conference centre that is located in the Borough of Newham. Once upon at time this area of London was a thriving and huge docklands area, known as the Port of London. Which was once upon a time the largest port in the world. Changed days, lets just say it is more of business, leisure and residential area than a working docks nowadays.
After my meeting I had a wee wander around to grab some fresh air down by the water. It was a Sunday afternoon and there wasn’t very many people kicking about, unbelievably there wasn’t a tourist for miles around. Was I really in London.
I headed around to the side of ExCel building to the Royal Victoria Dock and in the distance I noticed a bridge, which looked like it would be a good place to enjoy the views and what was left of the spring sunshine.
The great thing about London for me, is that it may be a city full of people and jam packed roads, but it is so easy to escape the madness. All it had taken was a 45 minute train journey and wolla just like magic I was discovering a new part of London. I wished I had my trainers on, cause I could have walked around the Docklands for hours, but my feet would have been destroyed with my shoes on.
I eventually made it to the what I think is called the Royal Victoria Dock Footbridge and up I climbed the 100 or so steps to take in the view. And the views were not too bad all. There was the iconic 02 Arena in the distance, the old cranes lining the side of the dock, people messing about on little boats on the water and the planes taking off from the City of London airport. And best of all the hour I stood relaxing on the bridge, only around 10 people passed me by.
Royal Victoria Dock Footbridge is probably not exactly a secret London bridge for those that know about it, but most tourists and local people to this city, it most certainly is a bit of a hidden gem.
