Aberdeen Rowies Dreaming

Aberdeen Rowies Dreaming

The French have croissants and very tasty they are too, the Glaswegians have Glasgow rolls and they taste nae bad as well, us Aberdonians have Rowies and they are the business, the real deal. If there is one thing I truly miss about back home apart from my family, friends and the weather…the last bit was a joke…is Rowies.

I woke up this morning suffering a wee bit from my over indulgence at the Subject60 party last night…your only young once is my motto. And 39 is young…nowadays…you better believe it! Ever since I woke up I have been craving some Aberdeen Rowies. Not any old Rowies, but soft Rowies from Chalmers. I just cant get them out of my head…the mere thought of them is driving my taste buds insane. The crispy ones are not to my liking but my Staffie Mable use to love them.

What I would do for 4 soft Aberdeen Rowies with a smidgen of butter right now…they may not be the healthiest thing in the world, but they really do taste fucking delicious. I know its hard to believe that something that contains lard could taste so good, but believe me they do. Hot or cold and with butter or even jam they are perfect way to start the day or for a mid morning snack.

It is a travesty that Rowies are not available worldwide, my ex-wife who was a Londoner with Bajan roots use to fucking love them. In fact her whole family did. They couldn’t get enough of the delicious things. The only logical solution I can think of is that I will have to have a go at making them myself…stay tuned to see how I get on with making them in the next edition of my Not Quite Gordon Ramsay series of articles…

  1. Anything that’s made with lard is good with me :) My grandmothers and mom used to bake all sorts of goodies with it and we even rendered our own lard sometimes. Now, that was gross, so I won’t go into it here, but it really does make a difference in the flakiness and overall taste of baked goods. But, I am a Rowies virgin . . . have never tasted them or even heard of them til now. Guess I’ll need to make a trip :)
