A Winter Stroll In Hampstead Heath
There is a vast 790 acre parkland in London, called Hampstead Heath which offers up a fantastic refuge from the grind of big city life. I love city life, but sometimes it is good to escape from time to time…what sane person doesn’t!
The Heath is a very popular place for Londoners and as a result it can get a wee bit busy, especially on a nice day at the weekend. However if you are prepared to come off the well trodden paths it is easy enough to escape from the people! Not that it ever gets too busy, apart from on top of Parliament Hill.
Every trip I make to Hampstead Heath I begin my adventure on top of Parliament Hill, which offers up some magnificent views of central London and beyond…it really does. Even though I have visited The Heath countless times I never get bored, as there are many different paths to walk down, directions to take, sights to see, views to enjoy.
On my latest Winter Stroll which was taken on a brisk afternoon I chose a path that I had never taken before and just kept on walking until I found a seat with a view. Even though the trees were naked, Hampstead Heath was still a picturesque and beautiful place. There is plenty of beauty there if you open your eyes. Who cares if the sun is not shining…this is London not the California we should be use to it!

One of my favourite places at The Heath to stop for a seat and wee breather is next to “Boudicca’s Mound” which stands near the top of one of the meadows. Folkloare calls this particualr spot, Boadicea’s Grave in the believe that she was buried here after being defeated by the Romans…

The outdoor bathing pond is a place that I have never ventured…just looking at the water made me feel frezing cold. Maybe one of these days I will be brave a enough to go for a swim…perhaps not.

No matter what time of the year, whether it’s Winter, Spring Summer or Autumn Hampstead Heath or The Heath as the local’s say, it is worth a visit. And best of all in order to visit London’s piece of countryside I don’t have to jump in a car and drive for hours to get there, which means I can always pop into a local pub for pint or two of delicious Real Cask Ale before I head home…

I would love to explore there. I’d be walking too. Why not. I will tell you that today’s high is supposed to be 60 degrees and the sun is shining brightly here in California. We do have more fair weather than we do a long cold winter. That’s one of the few pluses of living here.
Have a terrific day.
Comedy Plus´s last [type] ..Wednesdays Question #36
Comedy Plus, it is a great place to explore. 60 degrees sounds like a nice temperature to me. There are lot of pluses to living in London and the weather isn’t one of them…
I love the photos – I haven’t been up there in years. I really must go when the weather improves! It can get chilly up there as I recollect! Do you know that Jack Straw’s Castle pub is now a gym? How sad is that

Oh btw let me know what you think of the new design of the Londoneer – a week of sleepless nights getting it all set-up. WordPress is lovely but very, very complex

That is really a great place to be if you want to unwind. Aside from the beauty and serenity of the place, it is its accessibility that appeals to people.
I hope I can visit the place again.
The Londoneer, it does get a wee bit chilly at this time of the year, but not as chilly as down by the River Thames. Just wrap up good and you wont feel a thing…
I had wee peek at your blog the other day and the new theme looks great…all the hard work is worth it in the end.
Tony, The Heath sure is and you are right it is an easy place to get to for most Londoners…
Wow, super pics!
Bev, thanks…
