A Wee Wander Around the City of London In Pictures

The City of London, one of the worlds biggest tax havens, if not the biggest, is a place of real contrasts. In amongst the high rise steel and glass monster buildings you will find many hidden gems, hidden surprises waiting to be discovered – historic buildings, little gardens, beautiful churches, public art and even a few fairly decent boozers!

My personal favourite time to visit the City of London is at the weekend when all city boys and girls in suits are nowhere to be seen. The City which is normally a busy place Monday to Friday becomes a haven of tranquillity – apart from the bored security guards who seem to think that the pale looking Scottish loon with the camera in his hand is really a radical Muslim and a would be al-Qaeda terrorist! The scary thing is some of the security guards really do look like terrorists!

When I had a wee wander around the City last Saturday afternoon I felt like I was almost in a ghost town – there weren’t many people kicking about and not a lot of traffic. I suddenly liked a place, that I normally hate with a passion!

Saturday’s adventure was about filling in an hour before I went to an exhibition, so I never really had the chance to fully explore all the nooks and crannies of the City of London… So today I’m off to explore the City once more and see what I can discover and learn about the history of the place. And a message to all the bored security guards **** ***!
