A Trip To Greenwich Park In South East London

I had a meeting at the O2 centre late yesterday afternoon and by the time I was finished a few hours later it was still miraculously a very pleasant evening. However this is London and the weather can change in the blink of an eye, so I thought it might be good idea to go and enjoy it while it lasted.

So instead of jumping onto a overcrowded rush hour tube and feeling like a sardine for the next 30 minutes, I thought it would be a good idea to head over to Greenwich Park. The park was only a 10 minute bus journey from the O2, a much better prospect than standing next to some twats on the tube that are allergic to soap, water and are too mean to buy deodorant.

Greenwich Park is a former hunting park and is one of the Royal parks of London. As you would expect of a Royal Park it is fairly large, at over 183 acres in size and it also forms part of the Greenwich World heritage sight. The views from the park, especially up beside the Royal Observatory and on the various higher parts of the park are fantastic. I would possible go as far as saying that the overall views from Greenwich Park are the best you will find anywhere in London.

Greenwich Park was first enclosed in 1433 and it was the first Royal Park to do this. Even though certain parts of the park were busy, such as beside the Royal Observatory, it is such a vast place that it is easy to find your own wee piece of solitude.

I found Greenwich Park a great place to unwind and enjoy the warm evening weather. There were squirrels and rabbits running around, as well as ducks flying overhead and you can even find some deer if you look hard enough. I loved the tranquillity of the place and I suppose the nice weather helped to add to the ambiance of the place.

Greenwich Park may be a wee bit off the beaten track but there are so many free great tourist attractions in the area as well as being fairly close to the O2, that it I would say that it is must visit part of London for any tourists or residents alike. I shall be coming back in the near future for another visit and next time I will make it more of any adventure, by taking the river boat from central London and then it is only quick bus journey on the 188 to the park.
