A Nice Shade Of Aberdeen Red Turns To A Horrible Celtic Green
It was around 8pm on Saturday evening and I had just finished another relaxing walk along the River Thames. I was in search of some ideas for a movie script, which I’m working on and as is usually the case a stroll along the Thames always helps to stimulate my mind.
By the Time I was finishing my wander along the River Thames it had become fairly dark, in fact on certain stretches of the south bank side of the river heading from Battersea Power Station to Westminster Bridge. I would say it was a hell of lot darker than that so called piece of hyped crap that is masquerading as art, which is currently showing at the Tate Modern called “How It Is”.
What I love about going for a walk along the River Thames is how everything changes, once the lightness of the day turns to the darkness of the night. The River, the buildings and even the people that you pass by now take on a different look and feel.
I eventually made it back to Westminster Bridge. And as per usual after a wee stroll, of around 3 hours, I was contemplating going for a revitalising lager or two, to help me recover.
I was watching the various famous London landmarks all lit up. Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, were looking even more amazing at night than during the day. Then I watched the London Eye changing colours every few minutes, again it was an impressive sight.
The London Eye and part of County Hall suddenly looked as good as its ever going to look, when It was lit up in a nice shade of Aberdeen red. Being an Aberdeen supporter it brought a tear to my eye, especially since we had been beaten 2-0 at Pittodrie by Dundee United early in the day.
I was just admiring the London Eye nicely lit up in red, when the unthinkable happened it turned a disgusting shade of Celtic green. I swear at this stage my camera stopped to work, it couldn’t take the horrible sight. I suppose the only consolation was at least it never turned an even worse shade of Rangers blue, if that had happened I would have just thrown my camera in the Thames in anger.
Luckily my many life long Celtic supporter friends back home in Aberdeen have all got a good sense of humour, I wish I could say the same about the Rangers supporters!
London most certainly becomes an even cooler looking city once it becomes dark. Even though in certain stretches of the River Thames that aren’t very well lit up, it does have a sinister feel to it……..!
