A Bullet In The Back Of The Head Is Coming His Way
Whilst doing my morning round up of what’s happening in the world, I came across an article about a so called London based businessman called Akmal Shaikh who is going to be executed tomorrow at 2.30am GMT. His crime was trying to smuggle 4kg of heroin into China.
In China if you are caught with 50g of heroin that is enough to warrant receiving the death penalty, so you can imagine if you are caught trying to import 4kg of the shit, you aren’t going to get let off with 6 or 7 years in prison, like you would in the UK.
Incidentally 4kg of heroin is worth £250,000 in the UK. I just wonder how much misery, pain, suffering, death and crime that 4kg would have caused on the streets of China, which is where it would have ended up. There is quite a few so called drugs dealers in London that like to call themselves businessman as opposed to being called what they really are drug dealers.
There is a twist to the case of Akmal Shaikh the failed London business man or is it failed drug lord, is that he is innocent, of course he is, they always are. His family are fighting tooth and nail to get him let off. I wonder how many guilty men have ever admitted their guilt, especially ones that are about to get a bullet in the back of their head.
He was arrested in September 2007, and his lawyers and family are now asking for a stay of execution so that his mental condition at the time he was caught trying to smuggle the drugs into China, can be assessed properly. What have they being doing for the past two years?
Akmal Shaikh’s family claim that he has got mental health problems, that is obvious. No sane person would smuggle drugs anywhere in the world, let alone into China. He is seemingly or should I say suddenly bi-polar, it took two years for them to think that one up.
I read an interesting quote from his daughter regarding the many business failures that Akmal Shaikh had over the years, that he never understood the importance of paying back big business loans. That he thought it was acceptable to just change his identity or disappear when he defaulted on loans. I have personally known quite a few so called business people just like that over they years. They don’t mind screwing the banks or other small business out of money.
Another interesting look into the background of Akmal Shaikh is that he had a reputation as a womaniser. I find this case hard to understand, he has the mental capabilities to open up and run various businesses and fool around with many different woman. But he is too mentally ill or unstable to smuggle drugs, of course he is.
At the end of the day if you want to dance with the devil be prepared for the consequences of your actions. If you break the laws in the country you are about to commit your crime, be willing to accept whatever punishment is thrown your way. The rest of the world thankfully isn’t like Britain where you can kill, rob, rape, deal drugs and if you get caught all you get is a pitiful slap on the wrist from a fucked up joke of judge.
I suppose there is a 1% or probably less chance that Akmal Shaikh really was given a suitcase full of drugs from his friend, who mysteriously couldn’t make the flight, to take into China for him. That Akmal Shaikh a 51 years old man really thought he was going to China to record a hit single and become a pop star.
Stephen Fry is campaigning to have Shaikh given a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again, so that he can come back home to Britain and live happily ever after. Sorry Mr Fry but justice like that only happens in Britain. In China it is a whole different ball game.
If Akmal Shaikh is executed tomorrow as planned he will receive a bullet in the back of the head and his life will be over in a flash. Sometimes it only takes one bad piece of bad judgment to totally fuck up your life. My personal viewpoint is that the death penalty is an inhumane and barbaric form of justice and whether it is the proper way to deal with criminals is open to debate.
